Quince Imaging was selected to provide sports-arena projection mapping technology and imaging expertise for this year’s NCAA Final Four Tournament at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas! Under the production of the NCAA, and in partnership with The Famous Group, Quince was pleased to assist with delivering a fan-engaging broadcast television experience for the event.
Quince Imaging’s sports projection system transformed the court floor in real time, with 3D animated content developed by The Famous Group. Court projections served as primary pre-game entertainment and led into each round of the competition. Image-mapped displays consisted of pre-show visuals and player intros throughout each game during the entire Final Four tournament weekend, which commenced on Saturday, March 31, and concluded on Monday, April 2, where the Villanova Wildcats emerged as the 2018 NCAA Men’s Basketball Champions.
Quince’s engineering process consisted of the installation of eight high-quality projectors, displaying full 4K resolution on the court surface. Due to the massive broadcast viewing audience of over 16 million, it was imperative to prioritize pixel density and high-contrast ratio to ensure impactful viewing on the court and on the screen. In addition to installation of the projectors, Quince Imaging also had the task of coordinating with other vendors for enhancement lighting, screens, control systems, audio and LED. Rigorous testing was necessary to guarantee full integration of all technical and display systems, as well as the display of premium content, designed by The Famous Group.
