"I view my work as a continuing education in technical innovation. Each day, I learn something new about the sophisticated hardware and advanced technical systems we rely on for live, virtual, and broadcast events. Technology, like science, is always evolving, and we must stay on top of it to remain competitive in this industry. "
Q&A
Q: Quince’s core values have helped define our business and keep our team focused and successful. Thank you for all your hard work, and congrats on being recognized for embodying Quince’s core value of Preparedness! We define preparedness as, “dedication to excellent service for all, caring attitude toward clients and team members, critical thinking skills, ability to remain calm under pressure, and ability to solve problems creatively and strategically.” How would you say these characteristics play out in your day-to-day role at Quince?
A: I take pride in embracing a “jack of all trades” work ethic. My role requires a lot of versatility. My responsibilities are dictated by keeping the warehouse environment consistent with the company workflow. Workflow is impacted by convention, conference, and gala schedules; professional sports schedules; availability of video production resources; and product availability, including projectors and LED screens; as well as cultural and environmental factors. My goal is to stay valuable and versatile, independent of the individual demands of my workload. I’ve learned to remain equally consistent and efficient in both busy and slow seasons.
Q: How do you measure success in your role?
A: I get to provide critical support to ensure that events go off without a hitch. Clear communication with our engineering team to secure reliable packing and delivery of all technical specifications for each show keeps me accountable and contributes to the success of the team. Keeping our engineers happy by making sure they have all the equipment and gear they’ll need, including back-ups and substitutes, gives me a sense of accomplishment. I know that by doing my job well, I’m keeping life on-set for our engineers as smooth as possible. I can truly see the teamwork aspect at Quince on full display when I view the footage of our client events, and to me, that’s the true measure of success.
Q: What inspires you to stay motivated in your role, especially after the chaos 2020 imposed on the events industry?
A: The sense of comradery at Quince has always been exceptional, but ever since 2020, there has been even more of a family vibe. Everyone comes together here when in crisis, which is the opposite of status quo. I also appreciate that my team is so supportive when it comes to constructive feedback and growth. When I’ve missed the mark in the past, my team has been really good at putting the lesson in my face, teaching me to adapt, and build my toolkit at other critical moments. I’ve built so much confidence through trial and error, and positive reinforcement from my team that extends beyond my professional life and into my personal life. I’ve achieved some pretty awesome things, that I may never have realized I was capable of otherwise.
When He’s Not at Quince…
Kevin is passionate about family, community, and music. He combines all three of his passions as bassist in his band, Odder. “Odder is all about community and helping others. We’re actually preparing for our first post-covid performance. The goal is to bring our community together in an environment where people can bring their families to relax and enjoy each other’s company. It’s a great way to reconnect after all the isolation of the past year.”
